Sound(&)Design: oggetti sonori in mostra all'Auditorium Parco della Musica.

Strumenti musicali che ricoprono funzioni inaspettate, oggetti della vita quotidiana che acquistano nuovi significati nella loro funzione di sorgenti di suono, diffusori audio che diventano splendide opere di design. Dal 2 al 24 febbraio l'Auditorium Parco della Musica ospita la mostra inedita ed interamente gratuita intitolata DOS – Disegnare Oggetti Sonori, la prima esposizione internazionale incentrata sul rapporto tra design e suono organizzata dalla Fondazione Musica per Roma e la IMF Foundation che vede come curatrici Domitilla Dardi ed Elisabetta Pisu. La manifestazione, che si svolge prevalentemente presso i Foyer dell'Auditorium, propone non solo di dare spazio a tutti quegli artisti che negli anni hanno dedicato i loro sforzi alla realizzazione di opere incentrate sul suono ma anche di mettere in luce il diverso ruolo che lo spettatore si trova a ricoprire: egli diventa fruitore attivo di un'esperienza che coinvolge direttamente tutti i suoi organi di senso. 

Ne è un esempio Toccata, l'installazione video e audio interattiva che, grazie ad un sensore e ad un algoritmo generatore di impulsi random, reagisce ai movimenti dei visitatori e ne proietta il risultato su uno schermo sottoforma di particelle visive, ad ognuna delle quali corrisponde anche un'identità sonora. “Ho fatto in modo che lo spettatore potesse percepire l'opera con tutti gli organi sensoriali”, spiega l'artista Angelo Semeraro “lo scopo è fornire al visitatore un' esperienza unica ed irripetibile che è determinata dal movimento stesso delle particelle. Queste ultime, dipendendo dai movimenti delle persone in un determinato istante, non saranno più in grado di riprendere in futuro la stessa forma acquisita precedentemente.” 

Altro esempio di opera interattiva è Barcode Book di Yuri Suzuki, un libro illustrato contenente disegni e codici a barre che, se sfiorati da un apposito lettore ottico, producono dei suoni utili a capire lo svolgimento della storia. Suzuki, che oltre ad essere designer è anche esperto di musica elettronica e sound creator, spiega: “L'idea mi è venuta quando ho pensato ad uno strumento didattico in grado di aiutare persone con difficoltà di dislessia o cecità. In questo modo si può fruire un libro anche senza doverne leggere le parole, avvalendosi delle immagini e dei suoni. L'attrattiva principale del Barcode Book è la possibilità di scoprire i vari suoni passando il lettore sopra il codice a barre, quindi penso che sia un'attività divertente per tutti i bambini”.

Tecnologia e natura si uniscono nel Quintetto realizzato dal sound designer Fabio Sestili in collaborazione con Pixelorchestra e prodotto da Quiet Ensamble: 5 vasche di pesci collegate ciascuna ad una telecamera che registra i loro movimenti ed invia gli impulsi corrispondenti a 5 diversi virtual instruments. "Il ruolo della luce delle lampade posizionate su ogni vasca è non solo fondamentale per permettere alla telecamera di rilevare i movimenti dei pesci ma anche e soprattutto parte integrante della performance artistica" spiega Sestili "le pause con assenza di luce, infatti, determinano di conseguenza pause nel suono e una diversa atmosfera visiva".

Dello stesso filone è Trapped Flies degli austriaci Mischer Traxler, un'installazione che consiste in vari ripiani contenenti bicchieri di cristallo ognuno dei quali ha al suo interno una mosca finta, regolata nel movimento da un software in grado di controllare tutti gli impulsi inviati ai vari insetti; lo scopo dell'opera è sperimentare cosa succede quando il suono provocato da una mosca intrappolata in un bicchiere viene moltiplicato innumerevoli volte.

Olivier Vadrot e Sebastien Roux rivoluzionano il concetto di 'campanella scolastica' con il loro lavoro Carillon, sostituendo il classico suono che tutti gli studenti conoscono con una voce che recita versi di famose opere letterarie comprese nel programma didattico.

Restando in tema, gli artisti italiani Bruno Munori e Davide Mosconi decidono di creare nuovi suoni per i campanelli delle porte: Invece del campanello è una parata dei più svariati e bizzarri oggetti, i quali, una volta appesi fuori dalla porta e percossi, diventano originali soluzioni di design, sia visivo che sonoro. Singolare è anche il Bollitore 9091 di Richard Sapper, un particolare bollitore studiato appositamente per emettere un suono più “gentile” del classico fischio: il tutto viene ottenuto posizionando all'interno dell'oggetto un fischietto in ottone solitamente adibito al richiamo degli uccelli. 

 

Il design di Susanna Nobili decontestualizza strumenti musicali e dischi facendoli diventare parte integrante dell'arredamento nei progetti Diskobolus e Henrikpianò: nel primo caso veri 45 giri sorretti da spilli di metallo si trasformano in sedie e tavolini da bar, nel secondo la tastiera di un pianoforte si rimaterializza in un originale attaccapanni.

Non mancano esperimenti riguardanti i materiali di costruzione degli strumenti musicali: dall' Alessofono di Alessandro Mendini al Semi-acoustic Violin in fibra di carbonio realizzato da Gavari Gerda che trae ispirazione dalla sinuosità del corpo femminile, dal Paraffina Slapster di Lorenzo Palmero all' Air Piano di Omer Yosha, concludendo con il Pianbè, piano più custodia integrata, di Alessandro Corbella.

Una delle sezioni più suggestive della mostra è quella riguardante i diffusori e gli impianti audio che diventano vere e proprie sculture moderne pur mantenendo intatta la loro funzionalità. Nautilius del B&W Research Team è un ambizioso progetto che si propone di ottenere un'ottimale trasmissione del suono senza inscatolarlo, come accade nelle casse tradizionali, di qui lo spettacolare design a forma di conchiglia che richiama la forma della coclea uditiva.

Bs 50 tribute è una serie di diffusori creati dalla storica ditta Elipson per festeggiare i 60 anni di vita dell'azienda ed è un richiamo evidente alle apparecchiature vintage degli anni 50.

Omni-atun di Francesco Pellisari ed Elisabeth Frolet è un diffusore da appendere al soffitto e si basa sull'immagine acustica recepita dal cervello umano anziché sulla mera rappresentazione fisica dell'onda sonora; seguono Muon di Ross Lovegrove, il Radiofonografo stereofonico rr126/ rr226 di Achille e Giacomo Castiglioni, Zikmu Solo di Philippe Starck e infine BeoPlay A9 di Alexander Slatto, altoparlanti dal design estremamente minimale dotati di funzioni touch per il controllo del volume e amplificatore digitale per ascoltare musica tramite USB o wireless.

Fino al 28 febbraio sarà inoltre possibile visitare presso lo spazio espositivo AuditoriumArte la mostra Emerging Microstructures di Zimoun, artista svizzero autodidatta e pluripremiato in tutto il mondo. L'esposizione prevede due opere video e un'installazione che uniscono il minimalismo alla suggestione dei fenomeni della fisica e della natura.
